Matthew 25: 37-40; 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Jesus speaking)
Dear Friends,
I pray that this finds all of you doing well.
Things continue to be going full blast around here. A couple of week ago we received a few thousand pounds of food to give out to individuals/families in the community and also to feeding ministries. We are always thankful as the Lord daily opens doors of opportunity to serve.
The main reason for this letter is to inform you all that we are not going to be able to ship to Haiti, but will be trying to ship to Malawi. More on Malawi in a few min, but I want to explain to you why we can’t ship to Haiti.
About 2 weeks ago, due to some information I received, I started having some reservations about Haiti. To be honest, when I found out that the shipping cost would be paid, I really thought that the Lord was giving us an opportunity to help there because the needs are so great. However, to make a long story short, on the advice of people who have ministries there, and also friends involved in shipping, and due to the lack of government or any law there at the present, I would not want to risk the supplies getting into the hands of corrupt individuals. God, and so many of you, have entrusted us with funds and supplies and we do not take that trust lightly. Should you have questions regarding my decision in this, please let me know and I will be glad to share more with you.
As some of you may know, we have shipped to Malawi before without any major problems. The following is a brief description of conditions in Malawi at present. Jan Sawa was raised in Malawi and she and her husband Greg have Mwana Missions Project established there as an NGO. Jan wrote the following:
Malawi in Dire Need.
No matter where you turn, there is loss, desperation, and no available resources. Currently, the country is experiencing a devastating economic crisis that is causing people to literally starve to death.
In December of 2022, Malawi was hit with one of the worst Cholera outbreaks in history, killing hundreds.
In late February, Cyclone Freddy left a trail of destruction in its wake after ripping through Malawi to only circle back in March and cause even more destruction. The storm affected over 2 million people and displaced over half a million as it washed away homes, roads, and other infrastructure. The death toll exceeded 1000.
These devastating realities present opportunities for people to see Jesus’ character in greater ways. We are praying they experience his love and peace in ways that don’t make sense in the physical.
Brother Johnny, we are asking for you to please pray alongside us for wisdom on how to help these devastated people and the nation of Malawi.
Blessings!
Jan & Greg Sawa.
The Lord willing, we will be shipping rice, beans and other non-perishable foods, medical supplies, clothing, and personal hygiene items.
Folks, I would really appreciate your sincere prayers for this shipment. The shipping cost is about $13.000 and we need to purchase beans and rice also. Some of you made financial donations toward Haiti and I assure you that all of that will go towards helping with this shipment.
As always, thank you all for your continued prayers and support. Please know that any good works that Fairhaven is involved in, you are a part of. Should you have any questions in regards to this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
In His Service,
Johnny
You may use this same list as a guideline for Malawi:
- Dried goods—beans and rice are one of the best foods for they are easy to prepare and very nutritious.
- Any canned foods (but must have at least 6 months before expiration when they arrive in Haiti
- Over the counter medicines/first aid supplies which also must have 6 months before expiration when they arrive in Haiti
- Personal hygiene items (huge need also)
