Ephesians 5: 15-16– 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Dear Friends,
It is my prayer that this letter finds all of you well.
Sometimes, when I feel I am overloaded with problems and kind of feeling down, the Lord always reminds me of 2 things. First, different places in the world that I have visited and situations I have seen there—second, the prayer list at our church, the needs which covers front and back of a standard size printer sheet of paper. I assure you that it does not take but a second for me to realize that my problems are kind of insignificant. I have a picture, here in my office, of a little boy drinking out of a puddle of muddy water. The caption reads “Lord, if I am ever ungrateful, forgive me”. It is so easy for us to take our blessings for granted.
Thanks to so many of you, the children had a great Christmas. Thank you again for sharing your Christmas with us. I do have ask your forgiveness though because on Christmas morning I was sidetracked and did not get the pictures as I usually do. You can be sure they were all as excited as ever though. We always thank the Lord for touching hearts and for your faithfulness in responding.
2018 was a difficult year in some ways. First, our daughter-in-law lost her mom, then Sissie and I lost our moms, then about a week ago, our son-in-law lost his mom. It is at times like these when you surely find out that His grace is sufficient. We praise Him for His continued faithfulness in everything we face. We also had blessings beyond measure though and those blessings included Sissie and I having 2 new great grandchildren, which gives us a total of 3. What a blessing!!
As we go forward into the coming year, we simply ask that you continue to pray for us. Many of you are well aware that wherever the Lord is working, Satan is also working. It is our sincere desire that we would be the servants that the Lord would have us to be and that whatever is accomplished through our lives and Fairhaven will only glorify our Lord.
In this past year, besides the children and the privilege of helping locally almost every day, the Lord also allowed us to ship to Israel, Malawi, Columbia, and Guatemala. We are anxious to see what He wants to do in the coming year. With your help, we also sent about 500 boxes of coats, winter clothes, and toys to help those storm victims in Florida.
I know this letter is somewhat longer than usual but I feel I should share the following with you in regards to the scripture verse at the beginning of this.
I often think of “walking circumspectly”. According to one dictionary, (circumspectly; Heedful of circumstances and potential consequences; prudent.) The bible often compares the spiritual warfare, which we face constantly, with physical warfare in the terms of being a good soldier. I can assure you that most soldiers, when on patrol, are walking extremely “circumspectly”, aware of the potential dangers that are constantly around them. It is my sincere belief, that in this day and time, we as Christians should be living with a constant awareness of what is happening around us—not only for the wellbeing and safety of ourselves, but also for that of our families and loved ones. This can be an awesome responsibility, but our Lord promised wisdom to those who would ask.
Again, thank you all for your prayers and support. We pray His richest blessings on you in this coming year.
In His Service,
Johnny
